What is occupational disability insurance?

Occupational disability is one of life's greatest existential risks: If you become occupationally disabled and can no longer perform your job, financial difficulties usually arise – statutory disability pensions alone often provide insufficient protection. Allianz's occupational disability insurance pays you a monthly pension in the event of a claim and exempts you from paying premiums.

  • Flexible: Our BU insurance can be flexibly adjusted in the event of a job change, a stay abroad, or unemployment. If you pursue a career as a civil servant, the BU Premium can be supplemented with occupational disability cover.
  • Immediate protection: Full insurance coverage from the first premium.
  • The sooner you take out private occupational disability insurance, the cheaper your premiums will be.

Benefits of Allianz occupational disability insurance

Tailored to your life situation and income, you will receive suitable benefits, for example with BU Premium in the following areas:

  • Monthly pension: If you have been at least 50 percent occupationally disabled for six months continuously, or are expected to be for at least six months, the monthly occupational disability pension will help you cover your living expenses. You will receive this for as long as your occupational disability lasts, up to the agreed duration.
  • Benefits also apply to part-time employees: If you work part-time due to childcare or caring for relatives, your most recent full-time job is also relevant for the disability benefit assessment. We will also pay the full disability benefit if you are unable to work for fewer than three hours a day due to health reasons.
  • Sick leave benefits: You will receive a pension equal to your occupational disability pension if you have been on sick leave for six months continuously, or are expected to be. Furthermore, you no longer have to pay contributions.
  • Immediate assistance due to cancer: Upon the onset of certain types of cancer, you can quickly and easily receive temporary emergency assistance for 18 months, equivalent to your occupational disability pension. Furthermore, no additional contributions are required.
  • Reduced starting contributions possible for career starters: For trainees, students or career starters who usually still have a low income, the Occupational Disability Start Policy offers the possibility of obtaining full occupational disability cover even with reduced initial premiums.
  • High flexibility: Whether payment breaks with full insurance coverage, comprehensive options for increasing your insured disability pension without a new medical examination or adapting it to retirement age changes — your contract can be tailored to your lifestyle. If you pursue a career as a civil servant, the premium can be supplemented with occupational disability cover.
  • Assistance in securing your workforce: If you lose your ability to work, we are there for you with a special service that includes a second medical opinion, psychological support, and help with social security matters for quicker recovery and reintegration.
